New York is known for many rappers, including the Mobb Deep duo. Unfortunately, one of the members of the rap group, Prodigy, has passed away at the age of 42. Mobb Deep’s publicists confirmed his death as a statement in the Rolling Stone. He stated that, “it is extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep”.
Since birth, Prodigy has battled with sickle cell anemia. This disease has affected not only his career, but his personal life as well. There is no information yet as to the cause of death, however many believe it is related to his illness.
Rappers from all over have looked to Instagram to post tribute to the rapping legend. His long-time Mobb Deep partner, Havoc, posted two pictures of the two of them together and captioned it, “forever”. Other rappers, such as Nas, Lil Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa, have also posted tribute on social media to commemorate Prodigy.
It is truly a sad time for the rap community as they lost a legend in the music industry.
