How to Make Simple Syrup for Your Iced Coffee at Home

If you’re a fan of iced coffee, you know that getting the sweetness just right can be a bit of a challenge, especially when sugar refuses to dissolve properly in cold liquid. The solution? Simple syrup! This sweetener is a barista’s secret weapon for perfectly sweetened iced coffee. Here’s a quick guide on how to make it at home.

You’ll Need:

  • Water
  • Granulated sugar
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Bottle or jar for storage

Instructions:

  1. Measure equal parts of sugar and water. A good starting point is one cup of sugar to one cup of water, which will yield about 1 1/2 cups of simple syrup.
  2. Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Continue to cook and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved into the water. There’s no need to bring it to a boil; just make sure it’s hot enough to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Once the sugar is dissolved and the syrup is clear, remove the pan from the heat. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
  5. Pour the cooled syrup into a clean bottle or jar. Seal and store it in the refrigerator. Simple syrup can be kept for up to a month when refrigerated.
