The UEFA European Football Championship, known simply as EURO 2024, is set to captivate soccer fans around the world. Hosted by Germany, this year’s tournament promises a month of high-octane football. The dates to mark are June 14 to July 14, 2024. But let’s take a closer look at what to expect.
Germany as the Host Nation
For the first time since its reunification, Germany will host the UEFA European Championship. The country previously hosted in 1988 as West Germany. The selection of Germany as the host was confirmed during a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon back in 2018, where Germany was chosen over Turkey. This tournament follows the country’s successful hosting of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, setting the stage for another grand showcase of international football.
The Tournament Schedule and Format
EURO 2024 kicks off with an opening match between Germany and Scotland at the Munich Football Arena on June 14. The group stage will run until June 26, followed by the knockout stages starting on June 29. The tournament retains the format from UEFA EURO 2020, featuring six groups with the top two teams from each group advancing to the round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams.
The final will take place at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on July 14, 2024.
