Marriage is a special connection that two people share with each other. These two people agree to spend the rest of their lives together and have children in order to start their own families. Around the world though, marriage is done in varying ways.
For example, in this one village in India, a man named Ziona has numerous wives. He is a 67-year old religious man who is the son of the creator of the “Chana Pawl” sector of Christianity.
Polygamy is a very important tradition in Chana Pawl. That is why in Baktawng, the origin location of Chana Pawl, Ziona lives with his 39 wives and their 94 children. He even has 33 grandchildren.
The craziest part is that they all live together under the same roof. The women who are married to Ziona willingly married him and wanted to be a part of his family and lifestyle. Many come from run-down families and Ziona was a popular leader in Baktawng.
Ziona really seems to love all his wives and children and has made it his goal to be there for them.
He stated that “I feel like God’s special child. He’s given me so many people to look after”.
