This Coffee Shop Ingeniously Makes Customers More Polite

Anyone who has worked in a coffee shop, restaurant or convenience store knows that there is one major obstacle, rude customers.

Some people took “the customer is always right” and turned it into “the customer has to be a douche”, thinking that the workers owe them the world. CUPS Coffee & Tea, a small coffee shop in Roanoke, Virginia, has seemingly found a way to avoid any kind of douchebaggery from customers, with a very simple sign outside its door.

The sign basically says that if you want to be a jerk, you’ll be coughing up more cash. The truth is that no one was ever going to be paying more for their coffee or tea, but Austin Simms, the employee who wrote the sign, said that the idea was to scare some politeness into the customers, while also creating a nicer environment.

“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter.”

Reports are that the level of politeness from the shop’s clientele has indeed increased.

“Hello, one good idea please.”
