The Obamas have certainly kept themselves busy since leaving office in 2016. They still are the center of attention and people are dying to know what they’ve been up to over the past couple of years. Luckily for us, they have recently secured a deal with Netflix to create content for their streaming service.
Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will produce a docu-series, documentary films, and be featured in several multi-year deals. Some of these content creations will be scripted and some will be unscripted.
There are many avenues the Obamas could have chosen to speak their story. So what made them choose Netflix? According to Michelle, “Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership”.
While we don’t know exactly how much the Obama/Netflix agreement is worth, we do know that in the past, Barack and Michelle have been paid around 65$ million for a book deal and memoir by Penguin Random House.
So we’re definitely thinking Netflix had to offer them a hefty deal. Additionally, Netflix Chief Content Officer made it clear that he is thrilled the Obamas have accepted their deal. He recently stated that “we are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities”.
