This past weekend news came out that Kyrie Irving requested the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him. Why would one of the leaders of the Cavs, who were the 2016 NBA Finals champions and 2017 NBA Finals contenders, want to leave such a talented team?
There is no doubt that Kyrie is an essential part of the Cavs, but it seems that he will always be overshadowed by teammate LeBron James. Irving is ready to go out on his own and put himself in more of a leadership role instead of always coming up short to James. The 25-year-old’s agent Jeff Wechsler released a comment regarding the possibility of a trade, stating:
“Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team. The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private.”
Allegedly, LeBron was “blindsided” and “disappointed” when hearing the news about Kyrie. Although Cavs fans are not happy with this possible trade, plenty of other teams are ecstatic. There is talk of Kyrie going to The San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, or Minnesota Timberwolves.
We know wherever Kyrie ends up he’s going to continue to thrive. It’s just a matter of how happy or unhappy he will make the Cavs and many other possible prospects in the league.
