Fourteen years after one of Justin Timberlake’s most notorious live performances, the grammy winning singer has been asked to perform for the second time as this year’s halftime show for the 52nd annual SuperBowl. Timberlake shocked the world in 2004 of his first performance with partner Janet Jackson, with an incident that became well known as “Nipplegate.” At the end of their well-choreographed performance of Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body,” the singer reached over to Jackson’s chest and tore off a section of clothing to reveal her breast, which he explained later to be a “wardrobe malfunction.” Supposedly the singer was supposed to pull away the rubber bustier to reveal a red lace bra, but the garment collapsed, accidentally revealing her breast. While this incident helped his career to thrive, it ended up damaging Jackson’s career. In a recent sit down interview with NBC sports analyst Mike Tirico, Timberlake admitted to studying past halftime performances to make sure that he doesn’t mimic any mistakes made, as well as guaranteeing the audience that “that won’t happen this time.”
Due to the recent trend in artists using their SuperBowl performance, such as Lady Gaga and Beyonce to announce their next album or tour, fans are hoping that JT will do the same. Back in March, Timberlake tweeted that new music was “on the way,” and Pharrell confirmed this, stating that the album in production was simply “amazing.” In a Rolling Stones interview, Timbaland reveals he’s ready to make a large scale comeback from his drug and mental health struggles with the help of JT. He says in his interview that the album is almost finished. We’ll be here, with our popcorn and beer in hand, waiting for the 2018 Halftime show AND the drop of a new album! Go Justin!
