Ghostbusters Writer Ivan Reitman Discusses the Future of the Franchise

Ivan Reitman wrote the original Ghostbusters movie that starred Bill Murray and many other famous actors. He also took part in the female remake of the film, starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate Mckinnon, and Leslie Jones.

Although the reboot was not a very successful film, Reitman mentioned in an interview with io9 that the franchise would continue making Ghostbusters films. He even discussed how they are interested in making an animated version.

Based on Reitman’s interview, the remake of the Ghostbusters film was unsuccessful purely because of budgetary reasons and not due to lack of talent. The film cost $144 million dollars to create and only made $229 million dollars worldwide.

Nevertheless, it did receive positive ratings on the popular movie-rating site, Rotten Tomatoes. This indicates that people still loved the film and that the franchise should continue down its current path.

The Ghostbusters franchise is currently making a virtual videogame for PlayStation Store called Ghostbusters VR: Now Hiring and as mentioned before, they are creating an animated film that should be released sometime in either 2019 or 2020.
