It’s easy to feel that the world is coming to an end because of all the tragedies and natural disasters in recent days. Costco is apparently selling emergency food kits. The kit contains boxes of white wheat, hard rice, pasta, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, lentils, beans, instant milk, sugar, salt and chicken broth, powdered shortening and soy protein beef and they all have a lifespan of 3 to 30 years. Overall, it should provide an average of 2,000 calories per year for four people per day.
At Costco, a spokesman told Detroit Free Press, “The idea was to develop a great starter kit for a family that wanted to prepare for a disaster. This is a great value with shipping included.”
Costco Nutristore’s Premium Kit Food Kit at $ 6000 contains 600-gallon cans and promises to feed four adults for 1 year. And it’s not just Costco selling emergency food kits: Sam’s Club offers a $ 3599 kit that can feed four people for a year, and Wal-Mart offers a $ 1,290 kit designed for one person. Even Amazon offers a $ 976 pantry food kit.
In general, the online reviews of Costco’s emergency kits were positive except for one customer who wanted the kit to contain with some prescription ideas. Even if you are not mad at the end of the world, this kit could be very useful if you live in an area which is prone to natural disasters.
