The red carpet at the Academy Awards is always one for the books, and this year was no exception. Metallic shades, structured details, and mermaid-inspired dresses stole the show at this year’s Oscars, and we’re bringing you five dreamy dresses that got everyone talking.

Lupita Nyong’o in Armani Privé

Many stars at this year’s Oscars gave us mermaid vibes with their icy blue and seafoam green gowns. Lupita Nyong’o embraced this trend with her sequined Armani Privé dress with feathered details.

Florence Pugh in Del Core

Florence Pugh also looked like a real-life mermaid in her silver Del Core gown, which featured a sculpted bodice with delicate beading, meant to mimic water droplets.

Zendaya in Armani Privé

Zendaya was shining brighter than ever at this year’s Oscars, and we’re still in awe of her dazzling pink and silver Armani Privé column gown, adorned with palm tree print.

Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga

Archival looks were having a moment this award season, and Carey Mulligan saved the best for last. Her black and white Balenciaga gown has been around for decades, and Cristóbal Balenciaga designed it all the way back in 1951.

Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior

Anya Taylor-Joy gave us one of the ceremony’s most dazzling looks in her custom silver Dior number, which is a clear tribute to the brand’s iconic Junon gown.

After months of anticipation, the Academy Awards finally returned to LA on Sunday night. This year’s ceremony brought countless amazing moments our way and the red carpet was as spectacular as it gets, giving us one amazing look after another—starting with these five.

Fan Bing Bing in Tony Ward

Fan Bing Bing set the tone for the rest of the show early in the evening, when she hit the carpet in her dazzling Tony Ward gown and finished the look with a dramatic green cape.

Jessica Chastain in Gucci

We can count on Jessica Chastain to bring some Old Hollywood glamour to the red carpet, and she certainly delivered in this plunging silver gown, featuring a black velvet train.

Angela Bassett in Moschino

Angela Bassett always looks amazing in purple, and she embraced her favorite color in this voluminous Moschino gown with a plunging neckline and bow-like top.

Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab

Cara Delevingne made some pretty interesting red carpet choices in the past few weeks, and this voluminous red Elie Saab gown is one of her best looks in recent memory.

Janelle Monae in Vera Wang

Janelle Monae’s fashion choices never disappoint, and she wowed us at the Oscars on Sunday in this bi-color strapless gown with a black velvet bodice and orange silk skirt.

The Academy Awards nominations have finally been unveiled, with Everything Everywhere All At Once leading the way. After months of predictions, this year’s list of nominees still featured many shockers, starting with these snubs and surprises that no one saw coming.

Surprise: Andrea Riseborough, “To Leslie”

Andrea Riseborough had one of the most unusual Oscar campaigns in recent memory, but having A-list stars promote her movie To Leslie on social media apparently did the trick.

Snub: Female Directors

After receiving constant backlash for failing to honor female directors, the Academy is under fire again this year, since only Women Talking made it to the best picture category.

Surprise: Brian Tyree Henry, “Causeway”

The Academy voters made a few interesting choices when picking nominees for the best supporting actor, and it was a surprise to see Brian Tyree Henry get a nod for Causeway.

Snub: “Babylon”

Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s star-studded ode to Hollywood, went from being one of the Academy Awards front-runners to only receiving three nominations in technical categories.

Surprise: Paul Mescal, “Aftersun”

The best actor field is pretty crowded this year, and we were pleasantly surprised to see Paul Mescal make the cut with his leading role in Aftersun.

Snub: Taylor Swift, “Carolina”

Taylor Swift’s fans hoped she’d score her first Oscar nomination for “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, but she was snubbed by the Academy in favor of Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
