As summer comes near and temperatures start to increase, the dreadful season of sweating follows. Your brain and body battle against each other to keep cool when you are in the heat. A part of the brain, the hypothalamus, controls changes in core body temperature and is known as the body’s thermostat.

While most people hate the summer because of the constant sweating, they should be thankful their body sweats because the sweat itself evaporates and produces a cooling effect. Here are some tips to help keep your body cool in the summer.

Eating light and healthy meals is one of the most effective ways to keep cool. Most of the heat generated in the body comes from eating meals. Eating increases your core temperature because of the body digesting your food. Some foods that help cool the body naturally are watermelon, radishes, peaches, and apricots. Incorporating these foods into your summer diets can help you beat the summer heat and control your sweating.

Wearing lightweight and loose clothing also helps control your body temperature. Sweating does help produce a cooling effect from evaporating, but if you wear thick, dark colored clothing, it is hard for the sweat to evaporate from your body. The looser and lighter the clothing, the better chances you have of feeling cooler. Wearing dark colors also helps absorb more light rays, which make you feel hotter. Wearing white and pastel colored clothing in the summer is your best bet to stay cool.

This tip may not flow well with most people, but avoiding caffeine keeps you from being hot. Caffeine is known to warm the blood which does the opposite from keeping you cool.
