How The Washington Capitals Made History

On June 7, the Washington Capitals took to ice for game 5 ready to make history and defeat the Las Vegas Golden Knights. They won game 5 ending with points 4-3 in an intense battle that went down to the final seconds. They are the 125th champions of the National Hockey League.

This is the first time the Capitals have won the Cup in franchise history. After 43 seasons of blood, sweat, and tears they finally got one.

This is also the first championship won in DC sports in almost three decades. This win a much needed morale boost for the local sports fans and an even bigger boost for the Capitals Franchise.

Alex Ovechkin, their captain, is known to be one of the greatest hockey players in history. He was surrounded by a strong and supporting cast for a decade. After struggling in previous years, Ovechkin has returned to the elite status he was destined for.

Once Ovechkin came to the Capitals from Russia in 2005, he knew this was his home. Having spent thirteen seasons in DC, he has become a part of the Capitals family. This ring will only add to his legacy.

After the first victory in franchise history, fans are excited for the next season to start for a chance to defend their title. After all the years of taking and giving, the only thing left to do is proclaim victory.
